Dear Adam,
Hi, I give a 3 year-old Australian Cattle Dog. She is a wonderfully tractable dog, canine fair resident certified and everything. She is very tractable and fair natured to fill, however she is very dominant whilst it comes to other dogs. Recently I give been having problems with her snapping by the side of other dogs if they turn up up to her while she is on a strap. This is not a challenge if I tell her to sit and the other dog stays a common distance away. She doesn't like dogs invading her interim and status more her (she is merely 35 pounds, so a large amount dogs tower more her). I call it her "Napoleon Complex". I tried to production on the challenge by putting a gag on her and setting up situations so I can correct her, but she realizes with the intention of she is in thumbs down stance to fair the other dog who is boss while muzzled and refrains. We give recently on track therapy dog training classes, which she is responsibility very well in.
Like I thought she is a sharpen angel around fill. Concerning a therapy state of affairs she is suspect to egg on other dogs on or inedible strap who will be permitted to be in a stance close sufficient to upset her, however, if a little demand did occur, I would feel uncomfortable with her snapping by the side of an additional dog. Concerning a large amount instances, I can prevent a state of affairs everywhere she would be tempted to snap from occurring, however, here are a little instances with the intention of can't be avoided. Do you give some suggestions? I'm debating whether I must discontinue her therapy dog classes.
Thank You,
Katie
Dear Katie,
This is really more of a handler sigue. It's your trustworthiness to NOT LET other dogs invade her interim. Now, you can correct her instead of the raid - but by the side of the same moment in time, you obligation fair her with the intention of she can trust you, and with the intention of you will not consent to odd dogs from an additional group wonder up and step in her mug. This is the job of the group leader - to guard the group. And you're not responsibility your job by hire strangers inedible the street hike up and step too close. I would propose a walking stick or a stun gun.
Equally instead of the therapy dog training - I would propose with the intention of you carry on, but not including since the dog in person, this will ultimately be a judgement call which you obligation sort instead of physically and your dog.
That's all instead of in a jiffy, individuals!
Adam
